3 Things You Should Do To Get Your Home Ready for the Next Season!

A lot of people love the fall season.  It’s a season full of color, cooler weather and represents getting back to the routine.  With fall also comes the season of special holidays.  Yes, it’s that time again, before we know it, it will be Thanksgiving and Christmas. Then we will be too busy to get the house ready for colder weather and everything that goes with it.  Do you usually have guests from out of town during the holidays? You might want to think about sprucing up the guest room too.  There are 3 easy ways to prepare your home and have it look like it came out of the pages of a magazine.

1 – Purge

Clutter is not pretty. Since you’ll have to be making space for heavier coats, boots, scarves, etc; you need to get rid of all the stuff that’s been collected through the year that you don’t need.  Sadly, the flip flops will have to be stored else where.  Leave the sunglasses in your car where you can still find them. Store summer handbags  where you can get at them next spring.

2 – Create Attractive Storage

You know how everyone loves to dump their stuff in the entry way?  Make the pledge – no more tripping over boots, shoes and backpacks.  Everyone must hang up their stuff! A good metal hook is your best friend.  If you do nothing else, make sure to secure at least 2 hooks to the wall or door for every member of your household, including the dog. Make sure they can reach the hook. Adjust the hook height according to who will be using it.  Create a spot for the boots and shoes and add a mat even if it’s just a small mat, it’s enough to signify this is where the boots and shoes go.  Below are some really good ideas of how to create an organized entry way pleasing for everyone.

Hooks, Shelf and a Bench.

3 – Get Cozy

I love to use throws to add another element of texture and color, but I usually put them away during summer. I bring them back out some time in September along with other cozier decorative cushions. I usually buy more candles too and place them in places where I want it to feel cozy like the family room, the master bed and bath as well as the guest room.  This is a good time to freshen up bed linens too. I don’t know about you, but I grow tired of looking at the same bed cover so I use a down duvet and buy or make duvet covers.  A duvet cover is less expensive than comforters and unlike a comforter you know what’s in it and can easily wash it.  Duvets can also be purchased in different weights so you can find one that keeps you most comfortable. In the case of natural duvets you should always use a 100% cotton cover because it works better with the natural properties of the down duvet allowing you to maintain a comfortable temperature during sleep.

I’m sure you can guess  what I will be doing this weekend.
