Top 10 Decorating Ideas to Recharge any Room!

I don’t know about you but around this time of year I get that decorating itch and the only way to ease it is with some room decor change ups .  I’m not talking about a major overhaul just some fine tuning and sprucing up and a few new additions. Although I may stumble through each room walking like a Walking Dead zombie I do eventually decide on what course to take.  I go back to my chic and cheerful list of actions to take to revamp tired decor.  In the Letterman style we start the top 10 decorating ideas to revamp any room at number ten.

#10 Group Your Treasures.  Create a vignette of your most prescious treasure.  Don’t scatter them about the room.  The eye is drawn to dramatic collection of goods.  For high impact vary the heights of your items.

#9 Change the lamp shades. Changing the lamp shade is a good DIY project and here is a video link if you want to see how to tackle this project yourself. How to re-cover a lamp shade.

#8  Add new cushions.  This is another simple chic and cheerful DIY project.  Don’t throw out the whole cushion just remove the cover and buy or make a new one.

#7 Steal from other rooms.  Think about alternative functions for an older piece of furniture. Dressers can easily add storage in the entry or dining room.  Move chairs around the house. Reuse things like vases and other chutkus in different rooms and some one will say, “when did you get that?”

#6 Add some greenery.  Indoor plants are a great way to add some life in dead spaces and they clean the air we breath.  Consider these beauties for improving air quality. Types of house plants that clean the air we breath.

#5 Update a room with an electric fireplace.  An electric fireplace adds a lot of design and resale value to a room for little expense.  There are so many great styles now and the flames have improved tremendously.

#4 Change the photo frames.  When you’ve had the same photo frames hanging on the same wall for years, it’s easy to take those memories for granted.  Frames with larger mats is the more up-to-date choice which adds a lot more emphasis on the photos themselves.

#3 Add or change the area rug.  Without a doubt nothing creates a sense of warmth and fuses room decor like an area rug.  Area rugs are great for defining a space, adding color and texture to any decor.

#2 Change or add drapery.  Or add to the drapery with simple trim or ribbon.  Curtains are a great way to soften the look of a room while adding another design element.  There’s nothing wrong with keeping just the basic blinds, but installing drapery just takes the room decor to another level.  Trust me on this one, don’t over look the windows and you’ll see a noticeable “feel” to the space.

#1 Color is a room’s best friend.  Want to get the most bang for your decorating buck?  Paint the walls, and for maximum impact go with a contrasting (AKA complimentary) color on the walls.  If you have a grey or other neutral couch or wood furniture your choices for color are almost limitless, after all that’s why you chose a neutral sofa, right?  A can of paint is about $4o and painting the wall take a few hours. How much did you spend on the furniture?

I hope I’ve given you some food for thought.  Come back and let me know how it went.  I’d love to hear from you and if you like this post please share it with your friends. 🙂

  1. Great suggestions! I’m desperate to get a new rug in my living room, but am being a good wife and letting it float naturally up the priority list; waiting is tough sometimes 😉

  2. I’m amazed, I have to admit. Seldom do I come across a blog that’s both equally educative and interesting,
and without a doubt, you’ve hit the nail on the head. The issue is an issue that not enough people are speaking intelligently about.
I’m very happy I came across this in my search for something concerning
    this.

  3. Nice post. I learn something new and challenging on sites I stumbleupon every day.
It’s always interesting to read through content from other writers
and practice a little something from other websites.
